JuicePoint’s charging stations are well suited to multi-network IoT SIM cards
JuicePoint is using KeySIM’s multi-network IoT SIM cards to provide connectivity for its portable phone-charging stations in the UK and overseas.
The IoT SIMs can connect to Vodafone, O2, EE and Three in the UK, as well as multiple mobile networks internationally. This provides an alternative when venue Wi-Fi is unavailable, unreliable or restricted.
JuicePoint supplies power-bank rental stations to venues, events and businesses. Customers can rent a portable power bank, charge their phone while continuing to use it and then return the unit to a compatible station.
The company manages the installation, configuration, monitoring and ongoing support of its charging stations.
Reliable internet access is critical to JuicePoint’s service because its stations need to communicate with the platform responsible for processing customer transactions.
Venue Wi-Fi was not always suitable. In some locations, the signal could be unreliable, while other venues would not allow third-party equipment to connect to their network. Depending entirely on local Wi-Fi could therefore prevent a charging station from completing transactions or operating correctly.
JuicePoint needed an independent IoT connectivity solution that could work across different venues without being restricted to a single UK mobile network.
JuicePoint chose KeySIM’s unsteered multi-network IoT SIM card. In the UK, each SIM can connect to Vodafone, O2, EE or Three, allowing the charging station to use an available network rather than relying on one operator.
The IoT SIM cards can also access multiple networks overseas. International roaming can be activated remotely when required, without replacing the SIM card in each charging station.
Installing an IoT SIM gives each station its own connection and removes its dependence on the host venue’s broadband. As the stations use relatively small amounts of data, mobile connectivity is a practical alternative to installing a separate fixed internet connection at every location.
