Tooting wins in the 2016 Aviva Community Fund

News provided by Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers on Tuesday 24th Jan 2017

CARAS is a charity based in South London since 2002 that welcomes, values and supports those who have sought refuge in the UK, building a community in which refugees and asylum seekers can flourish.

CARAS is a winner in the 2016 Aviva Community Fund with our project ‘Gardens of Refuge’.

Picking up from the achievements our previous project ‘Rooting in Tooting’, we will be working with refugees living in and around Tooting to improve the green spaces around us, in partnership with Transition Town Tooting and the Grange Norfolk.

We’ve already witnessed the transformations that take place when people can use their skills and knowledge to create something shared. We know that learning together and growing plants brings beauty, hope and a sense of purpose when times are hard.

CARAS and Transition Town Tooting attended a Parliamentary Reception on the 23rd of January, to discuss the importance of community with other winners, Aviva executives, and Members of Parliament.
