Quadruple amputee's 3,000-mile banger rally for Scotland's amputees

Cor Hutton has two prosthetic legs, two transplanted hands, one third of a lung and a recent kidney transplant. This August she's driving a clapped-out Audi TT to Nice. She built Scotland's amputee charity because the support she needed didn't exist. Now she's driving to fund it.

Sepsis took both of Cor Hutton's hands and both of her feet. Her family never left her side. But when she looked for someone who truly understood what she was living through, she couldn't find them.

So, she built Finding Your Feet.

Today, Finding Your Feet (FYF) is Scotland's only nationwide charity supporting amputees, those born without limbs, and their families. It offers peer support, counselling, well-being services and inclusive clubs and activities, the kind of community that Cor needed and couldn't find when she needed it most.

This August, she's driving a clapped-out 19-year-old Audi TT with over 120,000 miles on the clock from Glasgow to Nice and back. Nearly 3,000 miles. Ten countries. Twelve days.

Cor has previously summited Kilimanjaro and Ben Nevis, and trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Right now her legs won't allow that kind of challenge. So she found a different kind of one. Only Cor would describe driving 3,000 miles across ten countries as the sensible option.

People drive to Europe all the time. But not with two prosthetic legs, two transplanted hands, one third of a lung and a kidney transplant received in 2024. She has, at this point, more replacement parts than the car.

This challenge is about courage, resilience and pushing forward when things don't go to plan. The very spirit at the heart of Finding Your Feet. With every mile she drives, Cor isn't just crossing countries. She's helping more people across Scotland rebuild confidence, independence and community after limb loss.

The route takes in the Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps, at 2,757 metres above sea level with 48 hairpin bends, described by Top Gear as the greatest driving road in the world. The rally takes in the Monaco Formula 1 circuit before the drive along the Cote d'Azur to the official finish line in Nice, before the long road home.

I'm equally nervous and excited for this challenge. I'm concerned my wee beloved convertible is 19 years old, has 120k miles on the clock and might not get me home, and that would break my heart. Also, I've been thinking I'm just sitting on my bum having a laugh with Evie, seeing incredible sights and places and creating memories with Rory (who will surely dump me very soon for mates and/or a girlfriend). The reality of driving 8 to 10 hours every day will no doubt be backache, grumps, tiredness, and that's without considering not being able to have legs-off days, and blisters. Then there's potential car troubles. What if we can't get home, stuck up in the Alps? We've paid it all ourselves, but costs could rocket, and on top of that, will we raise enough to secure our support for amputees for another year? If not, what would our Troopers do without Finding Your Feet? For many, we're the only support they have. There's the motivation, right there.” Cor Hutton

Joining Cor on the rally route is Trooper Babs Poole, from Dundee, a double above-knee amputee following vascular disease and a peer support volunteer with FYF, accompanied by nurses from Ninewells Hospital. Also on the road are Norma and Alistair Matheson of Matheson Damp Services, longstanding supporters of Finding Your Feet.

“Because of the amazing vascular team at Ninewells hospital. I have a much better quality of life which is why I am doing the banger rally. To prove to myself and other vascular amputees, that we will not be defined as amputees in chairs! I will push every boundary and live life to the full. With the help of the fantastic charity, Finding your Feet!!” Babs Poole.

Travelling with Cor for the full journey from Glasgow are her friend Evie Jackson and Cor’s son Rory, a mechanic apprentice at Arnold Clark Kia Linwood who serves as the convoy's unofficial mechanic, armed with gaffer tape and WD40. Evie's son Indie is also making the full journey. The final day of the official rally falls on Rory's 18th birthday.

The challenge was officially launched on 11 June 2026 at the Moulsdale Foundation Classic Car and Motorcycle Museum in Glasgow, one of the finest private collections in Scotland. The evening was hosted by Fat Brestovci of Capital Breakfast on Capital Radio Scotland.

The four-car convoy departs at 9am on 11 August from Malcolm Group Head Office, Brookfield House, 2 Burnbrae Drive, Linwood, Renfrewshire PA3 3BU, which the public are welcome to attend. There'll be a send-off drive-by at Rory's Arnold Clark Kia branch in Linwood, followed by the Finding Your Feet Charity Hub in Paisley, before the teams make their way south for the first leg of the journey. The official Two Ball Banger Rally runs 13 to 17 August, finishing with a celebration in Nice. The convoy is expected to return to Glasgow on Friday 21 August.

Finding Your Feet is grateful for the support of its sponsors: the Moulsdale Foundation and Optical Express who are sponsoring Cor's car, Arnold Clark, who are sponsoring Rory's car, the Malcolm Group, who are sponsoring Babs's car, the Reo Stakis Charitable Foundation, and M8 Recovery.
