Finding Your Feet founder Dr Cor Hutton MBE recognised at Pride of Scotland Awards

Dr Cor Hutton MBE BCAc DL has been presented with a Special Recognition award at the 2026 Pride of Scotland Awards in Glasgow, in recognition of a life that has inspired thousands across Scotland and beyond.

In 2013, Cor was 43 years old, a mum to a toddler, and full of life. Then pneumonia led to sepsis, and surgeons gave her a 5% chance of survival. To save her life, they amputated both her hands and feet. What followed was a recovery that most people couldn't imagine, and a determination that most people couldn't match.

During that recovery, Cor noticed there was nobody there who truly understood what it meant to live after amputation. No peer support. No community. No one who got it. So she built one. Finding Your Feet, Scotland's only nationwide charity for amputees, those born without limbs, and their families, started with five people. Today it supports more than 1,500 across Scotland, running 130+ clubs and activities every month, and has raised more than £5 million since it was founded.

But Cor didn't stop there. She became the first female quadruple amputee to reach the summit of both Ben Nevis and Mount Kilimanjaro. In January 2019, she became the first Scottish person to receive a double hand transplant, a 12-hour procedure that has since allowed her to write, drive and embrace the people she loves. She has campaigned tirelessly for organ donation ever since, determined that others might have the chance she was given. In December 2024, she received a kidney transplant.

She keeps going. That's who she is.
