FORGET THE RED ROSES. PLANT A YEW TREE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Show enduring love to your community this Valentine's Day by planting a yew tree propagated from an ancient tree over a thousand years old says The Conservation Foundation.

The Conservation Foundation is offering a free yew sapling to community groups who would like to play a part in protecting Britain's ancient yew heritage as part of its We Love Yew campaign, which is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Great Britain has one of the world's greatest collections of ancient yews, each with its own story to tell,” says Conservation Foundation Director David Shreeve, “Yews make very few demands, but do need a little bit of TLC from time to time. They can be older than anything else in the landscape, but often have very little official protection. They are already visited by large numbers of enthusiasts, but we hope We Love Yew will encourage people to learn about their local yew and its place in the history of where they live and ensure they continue to grow for hundreds - possibly thousands more years.”
