Press Release: The Mythical Land 

Cambridgeshire children’s author Joanne Hutchinson launches The Mythical Land Zoo on 22 August, inviting young readers into a world of teacup-sized Gigglephants that sneeze confetti, Dreammuffs that snore candyfloss and wonderfully dramatic Moopacas who strut their stuff on the runway.

Forget lions, elephants and penguins.

At The Mythical Land Zoo, children can discover Gigglephants no bigger than teacups who sneeze confetti, Dreammuffs who snore clouds of candyfloss if you wake them, and Moopacas who take themselves very seriously as they strut dramatically down their runway.

Created by British children’s author Joanne Hutchinson, The Mythical Land Zoo is a new illustrated children’s book filled with funny, lovable and completely impossible creatures designed to make young readers laugh, imagine and wonder what might be hiding around the next corner.

The book forms part of the wider Mythical Land story world, which also includes Og, Hagwitch and Hettie the Talking Yeti.

Rather than existing as separate stories, the books belong to one growing world filled with recurring characters, strange creatures, magical locations and adventures.

Joanne Hutchinson said:

“I wanted to create the sort of zoo children would invent themselves — somewhere completely ridiculous things are perfectly normal. A Gigglephant can be the size of a teacup, a Dreammuff can snore candyfloss and, of course, a Moopaca can believe it is the star of its own runway.”

She added:

“Mythical Land has grown far beyond one story. I want children to feel as though there is always another character to discover, another place to explore and another bit of nonsense waiting for them.”

The launch also marks the continued development of Mythical Land online, where families can discover the characters, explore the world and access free children’s activities inspired by the stories.

The website is designed to extend the experience beyond the book itself, giving children opportunities to keep playing, creating and imagining after the story has ended.

The Mythical Land Zoo launches in Kindle and paperback editions on 22 August 2026.
