The Children’s Family Trust Offers Up to £3,000 to New Foster Carers Amid National Shortage

News provided by The Children's Family Trust on Thursday 27th Feb 2025

With the UK facing a critical shortage of foster carers, The Children’s Family Trust (CFT) is launching a major incentive campaign to encourage more people to step forward and provide loving homes for vulnerable children. New foster carers can now receive up to £3,000, while existing CFT carers can earn £1,500 for each successful referral.

Addressing the Urgent Need for Foster Carers

Right now, thousands of children across the UK are in need of safe and nurturing foster homes. The demand for placements is rising, yet there are simply not enough carers to meet this need. CFT’s new incentive programme is designed to remove barriers, offer financial support, and ultimately find more stable homes for children in care.

"Fostering can be life-changing—for both the child and the carer," says Marina Mulholland (CEO). “It’s a very unique and special role as it not only positively changes a child’s life but can often change the lives of future generations too”.

“We know that taking the first step can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do. Our new campaign is here to provide not only financial reassurance but to communicate the outstanding professional support that we provide to make your fostering career a positive and life changing experience.”

What New Foster Carers Can Expect

Newly approved foster carers with CFT will receive:

  • £750 upon approval
  • An additional £750 after their first placement
  • Up to £3,000 for experienced foster carers who transfer to CFT

In addition to financial incentives, foster carers with The Children’s Family Trust benefit from:

  • An in-house psychotherapist providing direct support for carers and children
  • Full mileage reimbursement, including for everyday short trips
  • Extensive local support from dedicated fostering teams
  • Regular pay reviews and a commitment to reinvesting 85p of every £1 back into fostering services
  • Recognition schemes that celebrate the growth and achievements of looked-after children

Why Choose The Children’s Family Trust?

Unlike many independent fostering agencies (IFAs), CFT is a charity-driven organisation—meaning profits are reinvested into carers and children, not shareholders. This ensures ongoing training, support, and resources that directly benefit fostering families.

Transferring Foster Carers Welcome!

Experienced foster carers who are considering transferring can do so with ease. The Form F assessment is simplified, prior training is not required if recently completed, and any child currently in placement can transfer seamlessly to CFT.
