Surviving Winter Appeal

News provided by Cambridgeshire Community Foundation on Sunday 17th Nov 2019

9% of households in Cambridgeshire go cold over winter. That figure increases for Peterborough to 11.4% and to 12.3% for the city of Cambridge. This means that in 2019  over 33,000 households in Cambridgeshire are fuel poor and will go cold this winter.

In one of the most prosperous counties in the UK, many households simply cannot afford to keep adequately warm over winter. Incredibly, many parts of our county are amongst the worst nationally for fuel poverty.

This matters.

There is strong evidence that shows fuel poverty leads to:

  • Excess winter deaths - about 80 people could die over winter because of fuel poverty
  • Deterioration in physical health & mental health
  • Social isolation
  • Truancy, anti-social behaviour & negative effects on education attainment in children

Cambridgeshire Community Foundation is determined to do something about this. We want warm homes for thousands of vulnerable people right across Cambridgeshire and we need your help.
