Stunt Man Suffers Serious Back Injury

Danny MacAskill, 27, from Skye, is an internet sensation and BMX dare-devil who can be found performing life-threatening tricks and heart-stopping stunts across Scotland and beyond. His most recent internet video, however, shows the danger behind such an exhilarating sport, revealing that the star has suffered some serious injuries through his stunts.
MacAskill is sponsored by Red Bull and his new six part series, called Imaginate, sees him training for his toughest challenge yet, whilst trying to overcome the barriers caused by his previous injuries. The films show the pain and difficulty he suffers after adapting to life with a back injury. The damage, which was caused through a number of stunts, affected his ability to walk, and he couldn’t ride his beloved BMX for two years.
Throughout his career as a BMX stunt-man he has appeared in adverts for Volkswagen, has turned down countless TV opportunities, preferring a down-to-earth life, and has become an internet sensation. However, on the down side, he has also suffered countless breaks and sprains including dislocated fingers, a slipped disc; which required an operation on his spine, a broken wrist, knee damage, torn ligaments, three breaks to his collarbone and the serious injuries to his back.
Director David Koepp, who has worked on countless blockbuster hits including Spiderman and Indiana Jones, asked MacAskill to perform all of the stunts in his next new film. However, his back injuries very nearly caused an abrupt end to his daring career. Doctors recently warned his abilities would be limited for the rest of his life if he didn’t undertake surgery, which in itself is risky, and the film shows him at a specialist rehabilitation clinic for stuntmen and daredevils in the US.
Now, however, he can be found back on his bike jumping from roofs and climbing trees on his bike. Despite the long road to recovery, it seems even the most serious of injuries isn’t enough to put him off his daring antics.
