Smart City Technology Set For Budapest
Using a range of IoT technology and sensors will provide a cost effective smart city solution.
Following successful deployment of Smart City projects in the UK, EnLight® is delighted to announce the launch of the Sustainable Outdoor Lighting and Sensory Urban Network (SOLSUN) project in Budapest, Hungary, which will demonstrate how an intelligent city infrastructure can be created in a cost effective and sustainable way.
The two year, European-funded initiative from Climate-KIC, involves a consortium of partners led by EnLight, and includes BT plc, the Municipality of Budapest, Pannon PRO IS Ltd and the Budapest University of Technology & Economics.
Within a carefully selected area close to the centre of Budapest, EnLight's award winning technology will be installed on the existing street lighting infrastructure to reduce energy consumption and CO2 levels, as well as turning the street lights into nodes on a scalable network that will be expandable for other non-lighting applications.
A network of sensors will also be installed to capture real-time data on the urban environment including air pollution, noise pollution and traffic density; information gathered will be used to reduce energy consumption and address traffic congestion, a key contributor of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in cities.
David Aarons, CTO at EnLight commented, "SOLSUN brings together a strong core of public, private and academic partners with the combined expertise to develop outcomes that can be exploited on a global scale. This project will demonstrate technology that enables cities to reduce CO2 emissions across lighting and other sensors, based on the pioneering EnTalkâ„¢ communication platform, and improve the way their city operates, without incurring prohibitively high infrastructure costs. Using a range of IoT technology and sensors will provide a cost effective smart city solution to safeguard the future of our expanding cities."
Dora Kokai, Municipality of Budapest, added "We are very excited to be part of the SOLSUN project. Creating a truly Smart City in Budapest will dramatically change the way our city operates, with numerous benefits for both businesses and citizens alike."
