Scotland Ready for De-colonisation

News provided by The Sovereignty Research Group Limited on Monday 12th May 2025

Scottish constitutional think tank Scottish Sovereignty Research Group (SSRG) is holding a 3 day conference starting on Friday the 16th of May till Sunday the 18th of May at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline, Scotland.

Guest speakers include expert academics, lawyers, economists and politicians. A wide range of subjects are set to be discussed, debated and voted for covering subjects like Pensions and Social Security, A Scottish Currency & A Scottish Central Bank, Energy Sector to ground breaking research on Scotland's constitutional position.

During the Saturday afternoon session titled "Decolonisation & Self Determination" a legal opinion is set to be published that will cast serious doubt on the official constitutional understanding of the United Kingdom and that Scotland should qualify for the UN Decolonisation process therefor joining countries like India and Pakistan (1947), Ghana (1957) and Malaya (1957).

The UK government has since 2014 repeatedly refused permission for the Scottish nation to hold a democratic referendum on whether Scotland should continue in a union with England. "Now is not the time" as both Theresa May MP and Boris Johnson MP both have said while being the Prime Minister of the UK.

Well "Now is the Time" said SSRG's Director and Chairman David Henry, he went on to say when asked about Scotland constitutional position: "How can anyone claim that Scotland is in a voluntary union with England when Scots are refused permission to hold a democratic vote?", "Many countries have ended British rule but Scotland seems to be trapped in a unique position? Being told that it is in a union of equals with England while at the same time needing permission from its neighbour to end an abusive marriage." "Clearly this makes no sense and it’s long over due that Scotland takes its future into its own hands."

The SSRG Conference which is titled "The Next Steps" is set to be attended by hundreds of delegates from across Scotland. They will debate and discuss important policy areas including, whether Scotland has ever been in a voluntary union with England. It's the second 3 day conference that SSRG has hosted the first being held in 2022 which was described by the Scottish newspaper The National as "Ground Breaking".

Sara Salyers the co-founder of Liberation Scotland and Salvo who has amassed over 18,000 members and is presenting a De-Colonisation session said: "Following over 2 years of research and gathering expert advise and legal opinion we are finally able to confidently make the case for Scotland to join the many independent countries that have been listed by the UN C24 Committee for De-colonisation." "The Scottish political classes have failed to understand that a country doesn't ask for permission to end colonisation it’s simply demands it. Now is our time to demand Scotland is listed for De-Colonisation."

A live feed from the 3 day conference will be available via YouTube with many overseas observers expected to join the conference delegates.
