ROTARIAN SYRIA REFUGEE LIFEJACKET PROJECT
Children as young as a couple of months
The RoTB Trust launches an appeal on Crowdfunder to raise funds for the collection of Lifejackets left by the refugees that landed on the shores of Greece.
Children as young as a couple of months have travelled the dangerous crossing wearing nothing more than a buoyancy aid or lifejacket purchased in Turkey.
'When they land the last thing they think of is keeping the jacket so they discard it on the beach. The beaches are cluttered with thousands upon thousands' states Adrian Brewer, CEO of The RoTB Trust.
With fellow Rotarians and volunteers he is determined to remove these jackets, refurbish them and send them to the fishermen of Lake Victoria, 5000 of whom die every year, drowning in the lake as result of the unpredictable weather.
The refugees from war torn Syria make their way across Europe to sanctuary and what they leave behind will benefit people thousands of miles away.
Adrian expects to employ some refugees to help collect and refurbish jackets, giving them some financial independence to purchase the everyday things we take for granted.http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/syria-refugee-lifejacket-project
