Record Heatwave Is Driving Brits Mad — Survey Finds 37% Have Caught a Neighbour Naked
37% of Brits have caught a neighbour naked or topless during a heatwave — and 1 in 5 have reported them.
A new survey of 2,000 UK adults reveals that this week's record-breaking heatwave is exposing Britain's most desperate cooling habits — from naked gardening to fridge-diving — as a nation with barely any air conditioning strips off to survive, and complaints against neighbours surge.
June 24, 2026 — With Britain on course for one of its hottest summers on record, the country is bracing for repeated extreme heat. But new research points to an unexpected side effect of the heat: a nation stripping off, and neighbours seeing far more of each other than they would like.
KEY FINDINGS
• 37% of Brits have caught a neighbour naked or topless during a heatwave
• 45% have done household or garden chores completely naked in the heat
• 16% have been caught completely naked by a delivery driver or passer-by
• 42% say a naked neighbour genuinely annoys them
• 169% rise in Google searches for “report neighbour to council” in the past week
Nearly four in ten have caught a naked neighbour
A survey of 2,000 UK adults by Casinos Analyzer, an online casino review platform, found that 37% of Britons have caught a neighbour naked or topless through a window or over a fence during a heatwave. Many are baring all themselves: 18% have sunbathed completely naked in their own garden, while 45% admit to doing household or garden chores in the buff — from hanging out washing to manning the BBQ.
The exposure does not stop at the garden gate. Some 16% of Britons have been caught completely naked by a delivery driver, postman, or passer-by — the universal horror of answering the door at the worst possible moment.
Hosing down, fridge-diving, and naked households
When the heat peaks, dignity is the first thing to go. With homes turning into ovens, Britons are resorting to increasingly desperate measures to cool down — and a surprising number of them involve no clothes at all. Some 11% admit to hosing themselves down completely naked in the garden, rising to 32% who have done so in some state of undress.
Indoors, the tactics get stranger still. Nearly a third of Britons (31%) wander the house entirely naked to cool off, 34% stand in front of an open fridge or freezer, and 38% have stretched out on a cold bathroom or kitchen floor in search of relief. Others go further: 17% have resorted to putting ice cubes down their underwear. And when night falls, and the bedroom is still sweltering, 13% give up on the house altogether and sleep outside in the garden.
A nation of accidental eavesdroppers — and the backlash
Open windows and packed gardens are turning Britons into reluctant spies. Some 24% have seen a neighbour naked or topless, 21% have overheard their neighbours slagging them off, and 18% have heard them having sex through an open window.
Not everyone is taking the exposure lying down. A total of 42% of Britons say a naked neighbour genuinely annoys them, though just 24% take the relaxed view of “good luck to them.” The tension is already showing: Google searches for “report neighbour to council” are up 109% in the past week. Faced with the prospect of a fully naked neighbour in view, the country splits down the middle — 44% say “their garden, their rules,” while 25% would ask them to cover up or report them outright.
But when Britons actually catch a naked neighbour, most stay quiet: 54% simply looked away and said nothing. Even so, 18% went as far as reporting them to the council, police, or landlord, while 19% asked them to cover up and 9% had a stand-up row about it.
