PracticeTranslation.com launches affordable courses for bilinguals

News provided by Practice Translation on Monday 1st Dec 2014

London, Ontario – December 1st, 2014 – PracticeTranslation.com launched today, offering bilinguals a host of affordable translation courses on a self-service, self-paced basis. The site enables office staff and other bilinguals to improve their translation skills by translating articles and getting scored on their language accuracy. PracticeTranslation.com is offering courses in French translation now, but plans to offer Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and German courses in the coming months.

"Even if you're bilingual, doing an actual translation for work, such as a letter filled with technical terms, can be extremely stressful," said the site's founder Carol Kay. A lot of bilingual people are just a little rusty or never had the chance to learn business or other industry-specific terms reading French literature in University.

PracticeTranslation.com recognizes that translations can vary widely by context. For this reason, the site offers courses that give translators practice in specific language aspects of Business, Science, Legal, Arts and Entertainment, Food and Agriculture, Fashion and beauty, technology, government, travel, culture and correspondence. As of today, the site lists 30 English-to-French translation practice courses.

The founder started Practicetranslation.com after seeing bilingual professionals essentially panic about writing in their second language – frantically consulting online dictionaries and spending enormous amounts of work time on relatively simple translation tasks. "We wanted to make it easy to get back on track if you're a little bit out of practice," Kay continued.

The company's goal is to offer highly affordable online translation courses. Courses are priced at just $.99 each. "We're like the iTunes of language courses for bilingual professionals." In contrast, university programs can cost hundreds of dollars for comparable practice exercises. Each course requires the student to translate a written article of between 250 and 1,000 words. The site presents articles in "mini translation courses" that feature a translation preview mode, translation practice mode, and a translation test which allows the student to earn a certificate.
