New local School's Charity seeks Furness Schools

News provided by School Angel / Chris Cottam on Friday 17th Jan 2014

A new UK registered charity School Angel set up by parents of four children and based in Kendal, Cumbria is looking for schools in the Furness area who may need extra funds to help their pupils.

School Angel helps schools in two ways; firstly it provides any school with its own online shopping page covering most of the UK's big retailers like Amazon, Argos and John Lewis etc, every time the school supporters use the page to shop the retailer has agreed to make a donation from the profit they normally make to the school while the shopper always gets exactly the same deal. School angel then collect these donations and pay them to the school which can use the funds for a wide variety of things which directly benefit all the children at the school. The second arm of the charity helps disadvantaged children who may have a physical or mental disability or suffer through social deprivation. The charity raises funds to help disadvantaged children through a separate shopping page and also through the generous grant donations from various charitable trusts.

Jacqui Cottam a volunteer at the charity said 'School Angel believes teachers are uniquely positioned to pick up on children who are disadvantaged since they often spend more time with them than their parents or carers, if a need is identified then the charity can direct funding for just the right resource to help that child. Examples of help provided range from discreetly funding a school trip for a child who would otherwise be unable to attend, to specific pieces of medical equipment enabling a child with a disability to attend a mainstream school.'

The charity is young but growing rapidly and is keen to attract new schools who can really benefit from the services it offers. Jacqui said 'we would like to welcome any school, state, private, special needs and mainstream to get in touch if they would like to register or simply find out more about the charity. Registration is free and simple and takes less than five minutes via the charities website at www.schoolangel.org.uk
