A Penistone Footpath Club runner took on the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon last weekend, raising over £1,000 for The Sick Children’s Trust charity.

Jane Partridge, 43 from Hoylandswaine, has raised £1,500 for The Sick Children’s Trust after running 26.2 miles at the UK’s most iconic marathon. Jane chose to raise money for the charity after her sister-in-law, Fiona, told her about how it was supporting her brother and his partner in its ‘Home from Home’ Treetop House while his six-month-old son underwent treatment for cancer.

Treetop House supports families with sick children at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, giving them a private room and access to a communal kitchen, living room and bathrooms just a lift ride away from their child’s hospital bedside. First-time marathon runner, Jane says:

“I had decided originally not to run for charity as I have asked people so many times to donate, however when Fiona told me about how supportive The Sick Children’s Trust were being to her family, I couldn’t not.

“Treetop House has gone the extra-mile for her family and has meant they can all be together during this time. I want to do my bit to say thank you to The Sick Children’s Trust. I immediately set up my fundraising page, Fiona’s son Max became our little mascot - shaking our collection tin - and thanks to people’s generosity we’ve raised so much! The support has been phenomenal and it kept me going, pushing through each and every mile.”

Treetop House is one of two ‘Homes from Home’ run by The Sick Children’s Trust at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The other, Magnolia House, is located just a few minutes’ walk from the ward. Community Fundraiser, Diane Mcpherson-Emery, says:

“Our ‘Homes from Home’ provide vital practical and emotional support for families, and help keep families together during the most traumatic times. Jane has done an absolute brilliant job of fundraising, and we are so proud of her. The money she has raised will go a long way in supporting more families, from Yorkshire and the UK, with ‘Home from Home’ accommodation.”

Jane was one of 19 runners raising money for The Sick Children’s Trust through the Virgin Money London Marathon. Support her at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=JanePartridge
