Landfill plastic makes most secure garden shed

A garden shed that saves five cubic metres of waste plastic, about the size of one African elephant, from going to landfill is one of the most secure on the market.

The shed is manufactured using TPR, a synthetic concrete developed with the help of British Universities using plastic that cannot usually be re-cycled. The material is stronger and lighter than concrete, and unlike traditional shed materials will not rot, rust, melt and is thermally efficient.

The Brodco Strongroom shed was the first garden shed to pass the Secured by Design police initiative and has recently gained further improvements to the doors and roof. There is even an option for a Kevlar roof which is proving popular to owners of expensive machinery and equipment, especially high value bikes.

Nigel Broderick, MD of Brodco, the Somerset based company that markets the sheds, says “When my new wooden shed was broken into and my bike stolen I decided to design a shed that would be a barrier to thieves. They know most garden sheds can be broken into in a matter of seconds, and the contents can offer very lucrative pickings.”

The Brodco sheds have been independently tested against attack to the walls, roof, doors, locks and hinges. TPR is maintenance free and available in a choice of sizes and colours.

TPR is endorsed by The Carbon Trust and is now being specified by councils and housing associations as well as the MOD and Network Rail.
