Great Winter Cocktails to Serve in Highball Glasses

News provided by Dartington Crystal on Thursday 19th Jan 2012

There is nothing quite like a long cocktail drink encased in a suitable highball glass. Cocktails are normally associated with holidays, sun, the beach, and partying. However there is no reason why cocktails cannot be drunk at anytime of year and with the festive season behind us why not look at the following Winter Cocktails for a cheeky winter warmer.

All of the following cocktails have been mixed specifically for the winter season including the best of those devised for the Christmas and New Year festivities. They are all long cocktails and will be best enjoyed drunk from a highball glass; so why not liven up these dark dreary nights by experimenting with a few of our cocktails.

The Polar Short Cut
The Polar Short Cut will keep you warm as you skate to the North Pole;
- Dark Rum 0.5 measure (m)
- Triple Sec0.5 m
- Cherry Brandy0.5 m
- Noilly Prat Dry0.5 m

Take your highball glass and half fill it with ice, pour in all the ingredients and stir gently with a trusty muddling spoon

The Evergreen
The Evergreen is a shaken cocktail so will need your best cocktail shaker;
- Vodka1 m
- Crme De Menthe0.5 m
- Advocaat0.5 m
- Lemonade

Please, please, please do not put the lemonade in the cocktail shaker with the other ingredients or you will end up wearing your cocktail rather than drinking it.

Pour the ingredients in your cocktail shaker and give it a shake then pour into a glass and the top up with lemonade

The Avalanche
The Avalanche is to be drunk sensibly or it will come crashing down on you;
- Vodka1 m
- Amaretto0.5 m
- Crme De Cacao (white)1 m
- Crme De Bananes1 m
- Cream2 m
- Half a banana

You will need to put all the ingredients and some crushed ice into a blender for this one blending until smooth. Once done pour gently into your highball glasses.

With this you need white Crme De Cacao or you will end up with a mud slide rather than an Avalanche.

The Cranberry Chiller
The Cranberry Chiller, full of Christmas spirits, well it is full of some type of spirits;
- Vodka1 m
- Triple Sec1 m
- Amaretto1 m
- Cranberry Juice3 m
- Orange Juice2 m

Fill your highball glass with ice cubes, gently pour in the ingredients one by one, stir as gently as the snow settles on the ground and add a squeeze of lime juice.

The Ninth Night
The Ninth Night will definitely add a fizz to your winter days and evenings;
-Citrus Vodka2 m
-Triple Sec1 m
-White Cranberry Juice1 m
-Lemon-lime soda
-Lime juice

Get your cocktail shaker out and pour in the citrus vodka, Triple Sec, and cranberry juice with some ice, after a good shake put some ice into a highball glass and pour the mix into them; finish by adding the soda and lime juice.

The Royal Plush
The Royal Plush is a Champagne cocktail regal enough to adorn the best winter table;
- Red Burgundy Wine
- Brut Champagne

Crystal glasses are the only way to go with this rich cocktail; place a few cubes of ice in the glasses then half fill them with the Burgundy wine and then top the glass up with Champagne.

Pomegranate and Champagne Punch
The Pomegranate and Champagne Punch is another little Champagne number to brighten those cold dark nights;
- Pomegranate Juice0.5 cup
- Pear Nectar1 cup
- Cointreau0.25 cup
- Champagne1 bottle

Using a large pitcher jug mix the pomegranate juice, pear nectar and Cointreau then slowly pour the Champagne into the mixture. Get your best crystal highball glasses out and fill with ice pouring the punch over the ice.

We hope you enjoy these Highball Cocktails but please remember to enjoy them sensibly over the winter and festive season.
