Galleon Studios Launches New Soundproof Studio

Galleon Studios, the popular north Manchester studio, gets a new soundproof facility as well as modern lounge, make-up room and post-production offices. Galleon Productions, the independent video production company, funded the development of their studios following the facilities’ ongoing success since opening in 2007 as a studio primarily aimed at TV, film and video production. The new space is fully soundproof and is ideal for small sets and pieces-to-camera.

The studio’s opening is perfectly timed with the expansion of both the BBC and ITV in Manchester, and these companies have been quick to take advantage of the facility. By expanding the studios into a neighbouring unit, Galleon have also found space for new offices, make-up rooms and a lounge where waiting clients and talent can see what’s happening on set via plasma TV screens. The £100,000 expansion compliments their existing large green screen studio, which features an infinity cove and is sound reinforced. “We’ve tried to make the spaces all you’d want from a shooting environment. The studios are pre-lit so people can walk in and use them” says M.D. Kristen Gibson, who started the company in 2003. “As a video production company ourselves, we ensure the space is comfortable – but it also needs to be practical, and that means having the latest equipment to hand. This enables us to provide the best possible value when people hire the studios for themselves.”

The studios have both HD and 4K cameras, microphones, jibs, dolly, track and teleprompters available to hire on site as well as post-production services if clients require them. The new studio measures 14ft by 26ft, is air-conditioned and fully lit, ready for filming. Galleon Studios offer one hour’s tech support and, unusually, offer both spaces for the same price. “We want people to get the most out of our studio; so if people are filming in the main studio but want to shoot in the smaller studio, as long as it’s not being used, they can make use of it at no extra charge.”

So far the studios have proved to be very popular with a host of independent TV and corporate video companies vying to hire both space and equipment from Galleon.
