Discover a ‘City of Sharing’ at Cardiff’s Brand New Two-Day Festival

The first festival of its kind in Cardiff, the two-day ‘Cardiff Festival of Sharing’ invites visitors to swap, mend, and share skills at Railway Gardens, a vibrant community hub in Splott, this April. The festival will celebrate community knowledge, reducing waste, and creating space for people to connect, learn, and support one another in practical and meaningful ways.

From 10:00am on Saturday 25 April to 1:00pm on Sunday 26 April 2026, the free two-day festival invites visitors to take part in hands-on activities, workshops, and conversations led by local organisations, makers, and community networks, exploring how sharing skills, resources and knowledge can help build stronger, more connected communities. Organised by Green Squirrel, the Cardiff-based social enterprise behind Railway Gardens – the event promises a weekend full of creativity, learning and collaboration.

Day one (Saturday 25 April) will focus on skills and sharing, featuring a wide range of practical and creative sessions. Highlights include a pop-up Repair Cafe with Repair Cafe Wales, where attendees can bring broken items to be fixed for free, and a community Bike Fix hosted by Community Cycleworks to help get bikes back on the road. Visitors can also try wood turning and metalworking with the Bottega Project, take part in a language cafe, and join creative and wellbeing workshops throughout the day.

Alongside these activities, a key discussion session, Economies of Care: Resourcing Our Communities Differently, will invite participants to explore how communities can thrive through collaboration and shared resources beyond traditional economic systems. Skill-sharing sessions across the day include sketching for wellbeing, scriptwriting for beginners, tai chi, stained-glass, clothes mending, mindfulness, and hands-on making workshops.

Day two (Sunday 26 April) will centre around the return of the popular community clothes swap, where attendees are encouraged to bring good-quality clothes they no longer wear, and exchange them for new-to-them items. All free of charge! The day will also feature mending stations, a clothes nappy library, and an eco period zone, showcasing plastic-free options.

We hope this mini festival helps highlight the potential for sharing within our communities to help make Cardiff greener, stronger, and happier.”

Ellen Durrell, a long-standing volunteer at Railway Gardens, will be helping to welcoming visitors to the Festival of Sharing. She said “The clothes swap is amazing. There’s something for all ages and it’s a chance to refresh your wardrobe or clear out unwanted clothing. What more can a person ask for?”
