CEPSA AND PAYMET REVOLUTIONISE REFUELLING WITH THE LAUNCH OF CEPSA PAY, THE WORLD'S FIRST APPLICATION THAT CAN START A PUMP FROM A MOBILE PHONE

  • The Spanish Oil Company CEPSA has signed an agreement with PayMet to develop and design the mobile payment and loyalty application Cepsa Pay.
  • After many months of work the time has come to launch the first and only application able to start a fuel pump from a mobile phone. Cepsa Pay provides a highly innovative user experience and is now available free on the App Store and Google Play.

With each passing day, the advantages of paying by mobile phone are being rolled out to new areas of life, putting an end to long waits and the need for physical cards. Cepsa's new payment solution is a disruptive innovation in its sector and is based on more convenient, efficient and safer procedures.

To experience Cepsa Pay, users must first download the free application and complete the registration by filling in their personal details on the secure form. Then, to be able to make a payment at a service station, users must link one or more bank cards to their profile on PayMet, the ISO-MSP certified company in charge of managing their bank details securely and in compliance with the payment industry's PCI-DSS standards.

As part of the process users create a PassCode, a 4-digit code that is requested for security reasons when making a transaction against their bank card. However, this code is not required if the user has credit on the application.

When refuelling, the user selects the pump number, type and amount of fuel and presses the pump release button on their smartphone (always from inside the vehicle). The application then notifies the user when to get out of the car to refuel. At the end of the process the user receives the invoice or payment receipt automatically in the application and in their email inbox.

The application can also be used to pay at the shop via the QR code that appears on the screen.

Plus, with Cepsa Pay users can send credit automatically to friends, employees and family members, so they can use the application to shop or refuel at CEPSA service stations without linking a bank card.

From now on users will no longer need to carry around their CEPSA Porque Tu Vuelves loyalty card because their points will be added to their accounts automatically during the payment process itself, thanks to the application creating a new one during the registration process. Visa Cepsa holders can also link their cards to Cepsa Pay and will receive the same points they do right now. They will also be able to check their balance in real time using on the App.
