Celebrating 50 Years of Led Zeppelin

News provided by CODA - a Tribute to Led Zeppelin on Tuesday 2nd Oct 2018

On 7th September 1968, the band later to become known as Led Zeppelin performed their debut concert in a school hall in Gladsaxe, Copenhagen. Fast forward exactly 50 years and UK-based Led Zeppelin tribute band CODA were incredibly honoured and privileged to play the same stage, on the same day, to an audience consisting of many people who were at that very first Led Zeppelin show.

This crowd included Jerry Ritz, the promoter who booked Led Zeppelin's first tour of Scandinavia, and who later went on to promote many other bands, including Pink Floyd and Manfred Mann. Also present was Jorgen Angel who took the very first live pictures of Led Zeppelin and went on to become a respected rock photographer, snapping live shots of many bands such as Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix, and also Lars Abel, president of the Gladsaxe Teen Club, who booked the band and introduced them on that night 50 years ago, and who also introduced CODA exactly 50 years later.

Jerry Ritz said of that night “Fantastic show at Gladsaxe from CODA celebrating the birth of Led Zeppelin 50 years ago.”

Jorgen Angel commented “The fabulous Zeppelin tribute band CODA from England marked on Friday Led Zeppelin's 50 years with a fabulous concert in the resurrected teen club...CODA were amazing. The same hair, same poses and same costumes...The more than 400 in the chamber had an experience and clearly expressed their enthusiasm. A worthy mark of the 50 years.”

Now, CODA – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin are set to play two very special concerts in the UK, commemorating two more debuts: the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's very first UK show, and the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's first concert in London.

On 4th October 1968, Led Zeppelin, fresh from their tour of Scandinavia, returned to Great Britain to play their very first gig in the UK at the Mayfair Ballroom in Newcastle. Sadly, this much-loved venue closed in 1999, with over 5000 people attending the final night, so CODA – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin will be celebrating this UK debut with their show at Trillians Rock Bar, not far from the site of the Mayfair Ballroom, on Thursday 4th October, exactly 50 years to the day. They are looking forward very much to their first time playing in Newcastle and are very pleased to be able to mark this important date in the city.

Fast forward two weeks and the mighty Led Zeppelin, billed as the Yardbirds, hit the capital and rocked the legendary Marquee Club (celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year) at 90 Wardour Street on 18th October 1968, entertaining over 300 people with songs such as Dazed and Confused, Train Kept A Rolling and more, including a selection of rock and roll hits.

On the very same day,18th October 2018, exactly 50 years on, CODA – a Tribute to Led Zeppelin will be bringing their acclaimed show to a venue very close to the site of that incarnation of the Marquee Club. The band will be performing at the Flamingo Room, O'Neill's in Wardour Street, playing a set filled with songs from those very early, formative years, as well as all the classics, showstoppers, live rarities and acoustic songs that explores the full range of Led Zeppelin's 12 year career. It's this diversity that shows just how exciting, powerful, magical and eclectic Led Zeppelin were, and explains why the music of Led Zeppelin lives on even 38 years after the very sad and untimely death of drummer John Bonham, and is still relevant today to people of all ages.

"CODA represent the music of Led Zeppelin with passion and dedication – catch them when you can’’ - Dave Lewis, The UK's number one authority on Led Zeppelin and prolific author.

I have seen many Led Zeppelin tribute bands and CODA are the best. An excellent show!” - Andy Adams, Led Zeppelin super fan and co-author of several books on Led Zeppelin.

"Not really a cover band, more a reincarnation. I was utterly dumbstruck when I saw them. If I hadn't already got tickets I'd get them just to see this band again. Incredible band, they really have to be seen to be believed."

"The sound, the look, and most importantly the 'feel' is true Zeppelin. Pure class."

"Definitively the best cover band I have ever seen. Clearly a lot of time and devotion has been given to the great, original Led Zeppelin members, and their music, epitomising them in every way. I'm blown away and will be travelling far and wide to follow this band! Rock on!"
