Campaigners Deliver Valentine’s Day Message to Head of Halifax Bank

A "Valen-rhymes" card is to be hand-delivered today to Antonio Horta-Osorio by representatives of the Speak Network at 4pm.
One third of small charities' standing orders had been previously under threat when Halifax wanted to close 90,000 Treasurer’s Bank Accounts.
After 15 months of hard work, Halifax offered a standing order file amendment, which saved the standing orders.
In the case, which was taken to Financial Ombudsman, the compensation offered amounted only to £1,500.
The action takes place on the last working day before the deadline to challenge the most recent Ombudsman’s decision on the case.
The campaigners are calling for:
· a customer-centred banking system,
· a bigger voice for the public in how our banking system works
The Ombudsman has partially upheld Speak’s claim, but for a limited amount (£1,500) that doesn’t adequately compensate for the work required to challenge the case. Speak believes the compensation needs to be significantly higher – at least £6,000.
Lloyds Bank is 33% owned by the UK government and reported a pre-tax profit, of £415m in 2013. In an interview with the BBC Antonio Horta-Osorio said that his bonus, worth £1.7m, is aligned with taxpayers' interests.
