Cafe supports creative community
Rare opportunity to see all around this iconic building, meet the makers, see their studios and pick up some unique Christmas presents
Fire Station Creative is a vibrant hub bringing life to the centre of Dunfermline, Fife.
The venue opened its doors for the first time in July 2015 and has been embraced by the community ever since.
It is set up as a charity with a trading subsidiary and all profits made are gifted to the charity to lease and maintain the building.
As a result, there are 21 studios where 30 artists work on a daily basis – painters, printmakers, jewellers, sculptors, tailors, photographers, upcyclers, upholsterers and graphic artists are based here. They are all at different stages of their creative journey – some well established and running successful small businesses, others just starting out. Many of them offer classes and workshops on a regular basis either in the studio or in the classroom.
There’s an art therapy studio that therapists can use free of charge courtesy of The Mary Leishman Foundation. User groups range from children to adults to whom therapy is helpful for a variety of reasons.
There’s a classroom that hosts art classes for young and old as well as yoga, pilates and mindfulness.
The gallery on the ground floor offers a wide ranging programme of exhibitions changing monthly. And there’s a buzzing café and bar that serves brunch, lunch, cakes and at the weekend the very popular sharing platters often to the accompaniment of live music.
It’s inspiring to see this burst of creativity and forward thinking thriving in Fife. This weekend there is a rare opportunity to see all around this iconic building when the normally private work spaces will be open to the public. Visitors will have the chance to meet the makers, see the studios and pick up some unique Christmas presents.
