A shop unit at Derby's £100 million Castleward development has been used to showcase artwork produced by a local university graduate.

Housebuilder, Compendium Living has teamed up with the Derby QUAD, a charitable arts organisation and the University of Derby, to use one of the units at the Castleward development to display a collection of sculptures.

Seven sculptures produced by University of Derby graduate, Roger Gregory, will sit inside the shop unit from 18th August to 1st September, giving passers-by the opportunity to view his unique work.

Since Compendium Living began work on this major regeneration scheme in the city, which will feature 800 new homes and 34,550sqft of commercial space, they have worked with QUAD on several occasions as a way of showcasing various arts-based projects in the city.

Ian Woodland, Project Manager at Compendium Living said: "We wanted to provide something of interest for those passing by, as the number of people now using the boulevard has increased as the scheme has developed.

"It's also a great way of giving the students, especially Roger in this case, the satisfaction of having their work seen by the public. The artwork has already drawn a lot of interest so far, as Roger's sculptures are really eye catching."

Roger Gregory, mature student and professional artist, said: "My pieces were chosen by the staff at QUAD after consulting with Denis O'Connor, a senior lecturer and international sculptor from the University of Derby.

"I'm delighted to know that my work has been seen by the people of Derby and has received such a positive response. This is my third exhibition in Derby and I look forward to doing more in the future."

As well as Roger's work, lecturer Denis O'Connor's own work will become a permanent feature on the development, predominantly situated in the newly opened, Liversage Square. His work will reflect the varied trades that have taken place at Castleward in the past.

Named 'Curious Cavities' Roger's work is based on anatomical structures and will be on display at Castleward until 1st September. Roger's other artwork can be seen by going to www.sculptureuk.org.
