BARRIERS TO INNOVATION IN CONSTRUCTION AND HOW WE MUST OVERCOME THEM

Manchester, UK - August 20th 2015

In June of this year, key leaders in construction met at Kaleida's office, Trafford Park Manchester, to discuss and share insight on some of the central topics impacting the current market. As a result of the discussion, a whitepaper was produced highlighting some of the challenges and opportunities this key sector faces. Using personal insight and supporting sources, barriers to innovation were identified, along with proposed solutions that would require a change at both the top and the bottom.

The industry is key to our economic growth and its current position needs to be understood. Government led strategies such as Construction 2025 and Digital Built Britain cannot be achieved until there is a change in mindset towards innovation and collaboration. Our attendees suggested an approach where "innovation is driven and managed from the top down" (Harry Kaye, Amey) and "skills are built from the bottom up" (Cath Kenyon, Kaleida).
