Wizz Air Adds Glasgow to Vilnius Route in September 2015
Accessibility to Lithuania from the UK is on the rise as Wizz Air is set to introduce a flight between Glasgow and the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius. It will be the first time Vilnius has been served as a destination from Glasgow Airport and Wizz Air will operate a year round, twice weekly service starting on 16 September 2015.
Wizz Air is the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe and Paul White, business development manager at Glasgow Airport said "the new Vilnius service will no doubt prove extremely popular with both Lithuanian and Scottish passengers." Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air echoed these sentiments as he announced that fares will be starting from only £18.49.
UK access to Lithuania is already well established with flights leaving from London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham, Doncaster and Bristol. Wizzair offer flights to Vilnius while Ryan Air was the first carrier to set direct flights from Scotland in 2010 with a service running twice a week from Edinburgh Airport to Kaunas and from Liverpool and London Stansted to Vilnius. Kaunas International Airport is the second busiest civil airport in Lithuania after Vilnius Airport and as the second largest city in Lithuania, located just an hour's drive from Vilnius, less than a three hour flight to either of these cities will take visitors to a treasure trove of natural beauty; Vilnius' baroque old town, Ninth Fort, Trakai Castle and the Curonian Spit are just a few gems waiting to be discovered and part of what put Lithuania 3rd in Lonely Planet's Top Countries for 2015 and Europe's best kept secret.
