‘Welsh Wizard’ to fight for funds and awareness at white collar insurance industry boxing event

News provided by Pancreatic Cancer Action on Tuesday 27th May 2014

Jamie Simon, 30, an account manager from Lockton UK will be one of the 18 fighters from various insurance companies at Insurance Fight Night, an event organised by InsuranceAge magazine, on 19th June to raise funds for pancreatic cancer.

After 12 weeks of intensive training, the final contenders will step into the ring for the first ever white collar fight night for the insurance industry. All fights will be professionally refereed, consisting of three rounds, each lasting up to two minutes.

Jamie hopes to raise hundreds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action by taking part. Jamie said: “I chose to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Action as not only are they a current Lockton charity partner but are a wonderful charity who are heavily focused on early diagnosis to improve survival rates.

“I am determined to win my bout on the night and the intense training before the event, along with my sheer will to win, will help me reach my goal and become victorious.”

The five-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer, the fifth deadliest cancer in the UK, is just 3%. While survival rates of many cancers have improved significantly over 40 years, this shockingly low survival rate has not changed at all.

Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed working towards earlier diagnosis. The charity is focussed on educating the public and medical community as well as funding research.

They also campaign for more funding from the government into research, which currently stands at less than one per cent of all cancer researching funding.

Currently, only 3% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive beyond five years. Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.

Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “We are delighted that Jamie has chosen to give his time to support Pancreatic Cancer Action.

”As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals to help us continue our vital work. Please back Jamie in his fundraising efforts so that we can continue research into early diagnosis and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.”
