Two marathons in two weeks, completed in one wheelchair
Andrew Eastcroft will complete 53 gruelling miles in his wheelchair over two weeks at the Paris and London Marathons - all on behalf of Motivation
Andrew Eastcroft is taking on both the Paris and London marathons in his wheelchair this April on behalf of UK disability and development charity, Motivation.
Andrew will complete 53 gruelling miles in his wheelchair over just two weeks as he takes part in the Paris Marathon on Sunday 14 April, closely followed by the London Marathon on Sunday 28 April 2019.
Andrew’s incredible effort will test his fitness, endurance and his recovery rate as he takes on two gruelling races in close succession. Andrew is juggling his training, local fundraising and travel with working in his family’s pizza business. He trains around three times a week, scaling hills near his home in Edinburgh.
Andrew is raising funds for Motivation, a charity that enables disabled people in developing countries to have greater independence through the design and provision of wheelchairs, services and training. He has previously volunteered for Motivation projects and was determined to raise money for their work in some of the poorest countries in the world. All funds raised will go towards helping more disabled people to go to school, find employment and get involved with their communities.
Andrew said:
“I’ve volunteered with Motivation on two occasions in Tanzania and India where I helped deliver peer training and wheelchair skills courses. I have seen first hand the much needed and valuable work that they carry out with partners and volunteers, making sure that disabled people in the developing world have support and training to be healthy, confident and included in society.”
Joanna Hall, Head of Fundraising & Communications at Motivation said:
“When we received Andrew’s application to take part in the London Marathon we were really pleased, and when we heard he was taking part in the Paris Marathon two weeks beforehand we were bowled over! We would love as many people to get behind him as possible. You can support Andrew by making a donation on his Virgin Money Giving page at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AndrewEastcroft.”
