Already cooperating with over 6,000 of the biggest names in sport, entertainment, business and politics, world-renowned speaker bureau Speakers Corners is pleased to announce three women have joined its books. Guaranteed to delight with informative, educating and amusing presentations, they are sure to bring any function to life.
First of the three newcomers is broadcaster and entertainer Cleo Rocos. Born in Brazil to a Greek father and English mother, Cleo attended school in England before joining the BBC. Early on, she had a role in ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ and was a roving reporter for ‘That’s Life’. But she became a household name after frequent appearances in the ‘Kenny Everett Television Show’. She has appeared in a number of comedic roles as well as in the US drama ‘Highlander’ and NBC’s ‘Tropical Heat’, has been involved with several travel shows and presented ‘Cleo Worldwide’. She has also had stage success both sides of the Atlantic with her one-woman musical comedy show and has performed live at the Royal Albert Hall. Author of two books, Cleo has launched her own award-winning brand of Tequila and is President of The Tequila Society. She is a lively and amusing speaker and, who knows, she may even bring some of that tasty tequila along.
Also joining the Speakers Corner team is Sally Becker, a true modern day hero who has won many awards for her work with war victims. She is credited with saving the lives of hundreds of people in 1990s war-torn Bosnia-Herzegovina. Based in 1993 on the outskirts of Mostar where Muslim and Croat forces were fighting for control, she crossed under fire into the east side of the city where 50,000 Muslims were trapped, rescuing countless wounded women and children and earning the title Angel of Mostar’. She was responsible for rescuing children and families of all sides from dangerous situations throughout the region. During one attempted escape she was captured and imprisoned by Serb forces. Released after intervention by former Kosovo president Azem Vilasi, Sally was shot in a refugee camp in Albania by masked gunmen. Refusing the offer of a helicopter ride to safety, she remained with the children there until her mission was completed. After the war, she continued to work for war victims and opened centres devoted to helping women and children suffering from trauma. She is now a ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ for ‘Children of Peace”, a multi-faith charity dedicated to reconciling Israeli and Palestinian children. She was one of eight bearers of the Olympic flag at the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games. She is a motivating and moving speaker who is passionate about her work.
Speakers Corner’s newest keynote speaker on security, terrorism and leadership is Eliza Manningham-Buller. An Oxford graduate, Eliza spent three years as a teacher before joining the Security Service in 1974, specialising in counter-terrorism. She is said to have been one of only five people in the 1980s aware that Oleg Gordievsky, deputy head of the KGB in London, was a double agent. She had a leading role in investigations into the Lockerbie bombing, served in Washington during the first Gulf War and in 1992 led the newly established Irish counter-terrorism section. In 2002, she was promoted to Director-General of MI5, the second woman to hold the post, and is credited with making the agency more open. She is now a cross-bench Peer and a Governor of the Wellcome Trust, a global charity that aims supports bio-medical research. She also delivered the 2011 ‘Securing Freedom’ Reith Lectures, alongside Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi.
