The List of Finalist Candidates for the Titanium Awards at Fun & Serious Is Unveiled
The "Goya Awards" of the videogame industry will be presented on December 11 at a Grand Gala at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao
’Horizon Zero Dawn’ has monopolized the potential awards with 6 different nominations, while the independent Spanish videogame ‘Rime’ has received a surprising 5 nominations, the same number as ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’
The independent title ’What Remains of Edith Finch’, is among the Game of the Year finalists, where it will compete with productions such as ‘Super Mario Odyssey’, ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’, ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’, ‘Assassin's Creed Origins’ and ’Wolfenstein II’
The established videogame event, the Fun & Serious Game Festival - the largest in Europe - returns to Bilbao from December 8 to 11, and will culminate with the traditional Titanium Awards Gala in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum, hosted at this edition by the journalist, Iñaki López, and the actress, Itziar Atienza. The Gala will be attended by important international figures from the videogame world, who will travel to the festival to collect their Titanium Awards in their different categories. This festival has already welcomed a number of important personalities from the industry and creators of titles that represent veritable milestones in videogame history, such as Tim Schafer, Yuji Naka, Alexey Pajitnov, Warren Spector and Peter Molyneux.
’Horizon Zero Dawn’ (6), ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ (5), ‘Rime’ (5), ‘Assassin's Creed: Origins’ (4) and ’Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’ (4) are the titles that have received the largest number of nominations at this edition.
The independent title ’What Remains of Edith Finch’ is among the finalists for Game of the Year, where it will compete with productions such as ’Super Mario Odyssey’, ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’, ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’, ‘Assassin's Creed Origins’ and ’Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’.
In the Best Indie Video Game category we find the Spanish production RIME, along with ’CupHead’, ’Night in the Woods’, ’Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice’ and ’What Remains of Edith Finch’. In addition, it is a finalist in four other categories, competing face to face in the Titanium Awards with some of the great super productions of this year 2017: It is also competing for Best National Game, along with ‘Candle’, ‘Metroid Samus Returns’ and ‘Deiland’, as well as for Best BOS and Best Art Design, where it will compete with another indie production as well-known as ’Cuphead’, although in this category we will also find titles such as ’Assassin's Creed: Origins’, ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ and ’Horizon Zero Dawn’.
The Best Narrative Design section brings together stories told by ’What Remains of Edith Finch’, ‘The Sexy Brutale’, ’Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’, ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ and ’Hellblade’. The latter is also present amongst the finalists for Best Game Design, together with ’Zelda’, ‘Super Mario Odyssey’, ‘Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle’ and ‘Prey’.
In relation to adventure/role games, the selected titles include, once again, ’Horizon Zero Dawn’, along with Assassin's Creed’ and ’Zelda’, and the Divinity titles: ‘Original Sin 2’ and ‘South Park Rearguard in Danger’. These titles are also nominated for Best Performance in Spanish, where they will compete with ’Assassin's Creed’ and ‘Horizon’. In this category, ’Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’ and ’Star Wars Battlefront II’ are also finalists. These last two titles also make up the finalist list for Best Action Game, together with ’Prey’, ‘Destiny 2’ and ‘Call of Duty WW2’.
In the section of Best BOS, we find the magnificent soundtracks from ’Zelda’, ‘Horizon’, ‘Rime’, ’Cuphead’ and ’Hellblade’.
The Best Family/Social Game category includes nominations for games that encourage group-based leisure for all ages, such as ’Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle’, ‘Just Dance 2017’, ’Singstar Celebration’, ‘Knowledge is Power’ and ’Snipperclips’
In the category of Best Sports/Driving Game, football, basketball and motorsport will all be present, with ’FIFA 18’, ‘NBA 2K18’, ’Forza Motorsport 7’, ‘Project Cars 2’ and ’PES 2018’.
At the Honorary Awards, which recognize a whole life-time dedicated to video-games, one of the key moments of the Gala, this year's Laureates include the American designer and developer, John Romero, "Father" of ‘Wolfenstein 3D’, ‘Quake’ and ‘Doom’; the man largely responsible for the current physiognomy of the first person shooter games genre, Jordan Mechner, the famous creator of the iconic ‘Prince of Persia’, a milestone in the action and adventure genre; and the current Vice-President of Blizzard, Jeffrey Kaplan, who will join the roster of winners with a curriculum that includes masterpieces such as ‘Overwatch’ (now played by more than 20 million people worldwide) and ‘World of Warcraft’ (7.7 million players).

About the Fun & Serious Game Festival
The Fun & Serious Game Festival, to be held from 8 to 11 December in Bilbao, is the largest video-game festival in Europe and a key meeting-point for the industry as a whole.
The event's mission is to recognize and promote the work of video-game producers, directors, artists and developers, based on a comprehensive program of conferences, roundtables, networking and activities, aimed at both companies and the general public.
