People who have made an outstanding contribution to their local communities and neighbourhoods have been honoured by social landlord Coastline Housing.
The Redruth-based housing charity handed out a number of Customers At The Heart (CATH) awards to people across Cornwall during a ceremony at Heartlands.
One of those honoured at the ceremony was Patrick Burcombe of Redruth, who was given the Partner Programme volunteer of the year award for his work with the Coastline Homeless Service. During the year, Patrick did over 400 hours of volunteering to help those without a home of their own in Cornwall. This included helping out at Coastline’s day centre, assisting staff and clients, sorting donations and more.
The Coastline Housing involved customer of the year was Joe Ferguson of Helston who was commended for his commitment to Coastline’s customer activities and Wendy James of Camborne received the inspirational person of the year award for her kindness, compassion and devotion to all of Coastline’s customers and staff.
The inspiring futures achiever of the year award went to Gemma Parker of Redruth who, with the help of Coastline’s inspiring futures back to work programme, secured herself a position within Coastline’s Customer Access Team.
Meanwhile, for his volunteering within Coastline Housing, Gerald Pitt of Camborne was given the volunteer of the year award for the fantastic assistance he has given to Coastline staff and customers.
Personal development of the year award was given to Jed Fitzharris of Camborne for his involvement and dedication to his local community and the team of customers who live at Coastline’s Trevenson Court in Camborne won the community project award for developing a community garden. As well as the award, they were pleased to pick up a cash investment of £1,000 to put towards further developing the garden and installing some seating for the residents to sit and enjoy it.
Finally, the Work Skills Training Academy was awarded the partnership project accolade for the work carried out supporting Coastline’s inspiring futures programme which helps local people who wish to get back into employment.
Allister Young, CEO of Coastline Housing, and Derek Law MBE, Chairman of Coastline Housing, had the pleasure of presenting the awards.
Allister said: “We feel incredibly proud to work with so many great people in our local communities and to honour so many fantastic success stories. All of our award winners have worked incredibly hard and we look forward to hearing of their continuing success in the future.”
