Teenage Cancer Trust are pleased to announce that Professor Rachael Hough has joined their Board of Trustees.

Professor Hough is consultant in haematology and stem cell transplantation at UCLH, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Haematology/Transplantation at UCL. As such, she is the Clinical Lead of the largest teenage cancer service in the UK and has developed an adolescent-focussed transplant practice.

Professor Hough said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Board of Trustees at Teenage Cancer Trust – it’s a privilege to join an organisation whose core value of putting the needs of young people with cancer at the heart of everything they do resonates so closely with my own values. We are at a time when specialist support and care for young people with cancer is more important than ever before and, having worked closely with Teenage Cancer Trust for so many years I am looking forward to continuing to work with them help them achieve even greater impact for young people with cancer in the UK.”

The appointment was confirmed by Paul Spanswick, Chair of Teenage Cancer Trust, who said: “I’m delighted to welcome Rachael to the Board of Trustees at Teenage Cancer Trust. She brings with her extensive front-line clinical experience of young adult cancer care, which I know will complement the skills of our existing Trustees. Her knowledge will help ensure we continue to put the needs of young people and their families at the heart of everything we do.”

Teenage Cancer Trust Chief Executive Kate Collins said: “I’m enormously looking forward to working with Rachael, along with Paul and the wider Board of Trustees as we continue to increase the impact we have for young people with cancer in the UK.

“Young people with cancer have never needed us more and having a clinician of Rachael’s expertise and reputation in the specialism of Teenage and Young Adult cancers join our Board is excellent news. Rachael has always been an enormous advocate and ally for young people and the charity, and we are all very grateful she is dedicating her time to us in this way.”

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer”. They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through it. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.

Professor Hough’s appointment will bring additional clinical expertise to the Board, which is currently made up of Trustees Vimi Grewal-Carr, Ronnie Harris, Carrie Hindmarsh, Sue Morgan, Richard Rosenberg, Jeremy Seigal, Varda Shine, Jeremy Shute and Rich Waterworth.

Teenage Cancer Trust’s senior team has also been boosted by the addition of George Crockford, who joins as Director of Finance, Performance and Governance.

George, who is a Fellow of the Institute of Charted Accountants, has previously held roles at the National Audit Office and in local government, and is Honorary Treasurer for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

George said: “Teenage Cancer Trust rightly have a great reputation for the amazing work they carry out. I’m particularly delighted to be joining a charity with such a strong commitment to improving inclusion and equity for young people. I look forward to contributing to their outstanding work.”
