Tee-ing Off a New Era of School Golf Success

News provided by Hampshire Collegiate School on Friday 4th Mar 2016

The same week as Hampshire Collegiate School launched their new Golf Academy with PGA Advanced Pro Dean Halford, congratulations must go to the Hampshire Collegiate School Senior Golf Team who on 1st March won the Southern Area (P) Independent School Golf Association (ISGA) finals. The 3 players – playing against Winchester College – Arrun Brar, Henry Sparks and Arvind Brar, were confident for their chances from the start.

Hampshire Collegiate School pupil quotes:

Arrun Brar, Year 12, said: “It was a good tournament. All three of us won which was really nice.”

Henry Sparks, Year 11, said: “Despite windy and cold weather conditions we were confident of a win. It was really good that we all won and it will be a great experience for us to play at St Andrews.”

Arvind Brar also in Year 11 is really looking forward to playing in the finals at St Andrews in April. “I have never played there before and I am looking forward to discovering more about the history of golf, when we are there”.

Andrew Egford, Director of Sport at HCS said “Their route to victory has seen some great battles along the way, beating Prior Park School, Canford School and Winchester College. All the pupils have contributed to the overall victory and have shown a great deal of determination in some tough matches. In conjunction with our new Golf Academy we hope this is just a taster of the success to come at the school.”

The team will now go onto the National Finals, held at St Andrew's, Scotland in April. It will be a massive honour for the pupils to represent the school for a second consecutive year at this level, especially at the 'Home of Golf'.

About Dean Halford

Biography:

I was Head Coach of the Lee Westwood Golf Academy from 2008 to 2012 and this exciting initiative offered more than 1000 junior golfers the chance to receive coaching from over 80 PGA coaches each year at venues across England. I oversaw the coaching and developed the programme for Lee. The Academy was launched in Spain from 2009 which I was also responsible for at the world renowned La Manga Resort. I spent a great deal of time with Lee throughout the process in the time when he was No1 in the World!

At various times I have been fortunate to have coached on the European Tour working alongside the likes of Justin Rose, Mark Davis and the late great Seve Ballesteros. The highlight of my career was to spend 4 days with Seve at The BMW Masters in Germany. I also worked with 2011 US Open Champion Rory McIllroy in the early stages of his development as a junior whilst Director of Golf at Millfield School.

My experience has taken me all over the UK and into Europe with TMB Events on their corporate golf days. I ran over 200 golf days on behalf of their Blue Chip clients that included Audi, Toyota, Lexus and Wella.
