St Michael's Church Worcester raises £504 for clean water project in Africa

News provided by Hope Spring Water on Tuesday 8th May 2018

St Michael's church in Dines Green area of Worcester, has raised the sum of £504 for Herefordshire based clean water charity, Hope Spring. Supported by the three Churches in it’s parish; St. Clement, St. David and St John-in-Bedwardine, the money was raised from donation to St Michael’s Lent lunches, an annual fundraising event organised by the Church between February and April.

Presenting a cheque for £504 to Hope Spring water at St Michael’s building, Gresham Road in Worcester, Church representative Jenny Claydon said “we decided that our Lent fundraising this year, will go to a local small clean water charity. During our research, Hope Spring water came up, and we choose them as the beneficiary”. The money raised by St Michael’s Lent lunch fundraising campaign in 2018, was almost twice the sum raised by previous Lent lunch fundraising. This shows a strong support from clean water project in Africa. Women and children in some commutes in Africa have to walk several miles daily, to fetch water.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of Hope Spring Water, Temi Odurinde, a trustee of the charity said “we are very grateful to St Michael's church for their generous donation to one of our projects.” he added that “we are fortunate that the congregation at St Michael's are a discerning group, they went out of their way to select a small charity like Hope Spring. Most of the time, smaller charities are overlooked in favour of larger charities, whose huge advertising spend provide them greater visibility. In reality, smaller charities achieve a lot more with donations, because they have little or no overheads”.

According to Hope Spring water, the donation from St Michel's Church in Worcester, will be augmented by skills and time donated by beneficiary community in Africa. The combination of the money and local time and skills donations, will turn the £504 into a well or borehole project that provided clean, safe water to more than one hundred people.
