Spiggle & Theis have developed the Berghaus/Schrom platinum lid chain, a flexible implant which restores dynamic closure of the eye in cases of Lagophthalmus, resulting from facial paralysis. The implants have the design of a chain to smoothly adapt to the form of the tarsus and boast pre-drilled holes which are for easier fixation.

The lid chain is manufactured from platinum and iridium, which has many advantages, particularly when considering weight distribution and biocompatibility. The combination of the materials and the chain form is reflected in its above-average performance results and lower rate of post-surgical complications.

Adapted perfectly to the anatomy of the eye, the implant offers many advantages over gold equivalents, including; very good tissue compatibility and excellent cosmetic results. It enables optimum pre-tarsal alignment and maintains long-term flexibility as well as allowing complete closure of the lid.

The appropriate weight needed is determined by pre-operative fitting, with weights from 0.6g to 2.0g in 0.2g increments. Reusable stainless steel test weights are available to ensure sufficient lid closure.

The design is easily reversible and significantly improves patient quality-of-life. The lid chains can also be combined with other surgical eyelid corrective procedures.
