Singing for Syrians goes virtual!
Anna’s video is a perfect example of using tragedy as a catalyst for positive change.
Composed especially for Singing for Syrians by former BBC Young Composer of the Year, Alex Woolf, this autumn ‘Syrian Sands’ takes to new virtual heights!
The conflict in Syria has shattered the lives of millions and continues today with some of the most violent fighting seen taking place in the last few months. Now, with the global COVID pandemic placing extra pressure on us all, some inspiring individuals are making the very best of a difficult and challenging situation.
15-year-old Anna is one such person. Seeing that we’re unable to all get together and sing, Anna decided to put together a virtual performance of Alex Woolf’s beautiful Syrian Sands in support of the Singing for Syrians’ campaign. This Lockdown Edition includes performances from 11 choirs and 60 choir members, singing together from the safety of their own homes.
Singing for Syrians offers an uplifting way for us all to remember Syria’s most vulnerable by bringing together communities to raise money for Hands Up Foundation by holding a musical event. Anna’s video is a perfect example of using tragedy as a catalyst for positive change. Something we could all do with right now.
