Sing along to ‘Grease’ in pyjamas for The National Brain Appeal Pyjama Party
News provided by The National Brain Appeal on Wednesday 16th Oct 2013
The National Brain Appeal is hosting a fundraising screening of the classic 1978 American musical film ‘Grease’ on Thursday 24th October at 6.30pm for its 2013 Pyjama Party campaign. Guests will watch the film in the 94-seat private screening room at The Court House Hotel, Great Marlborough Street in central London. The hotel was once The Great Marlborough Street Magistrate’s Court where Charles Dickens worked as a court reporter and Oscar Wilde had the start of his ‘Queensbury’ case heard.
The National Brain Appeal Pyjama Party takes place from 19 to 27 October. It is ‘a week of fun in pyjamas’ where people are encouraged to organise events to raise money for the one in six people affected by a neurological disorder in the UK.
Theresa Dauncey, Chief Executive of The National Brain Appeal, said: “We want the screening to have a party atmosphere and we think ‘Grease’ is a great choice to get everyone involved. I probably know every word to every song and some of the dance moves!
“Whether you are coming along to the film night or organising your own event, wearing pyjamas is a simple yet touching way to show support for patients in hospital whilst raising vital funds to enable our leading brain and spine experts to push the boundaries to find new treatments.”
The National Brain Appeal raises funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square, London, which is the UK’s biggest neurosurgery unit. Their current appeal is to raise funds to upgrade the hospital’s operating theatres, including the creation of a specialist theatre that will revolutionise the most complex spinal surgery for the growing number of people who need it. These new bespoke facilities will improve patient care and outcomes, spearhead research into new treatments (such as spinal cord repair research), as well as the extra capacity allowing patients to be seen more quickly.
Tickets for The National Brain Appeal film night are £15 and available from http://www.nationalbrainappeal.org/shop/ and 020 3448 4724. This includes a glass of wine or soft drink and popcorn. The event starts at 6.30pm in the hotel bar with the film screening at 7pm. There will be post-screening games and prizes in the hotel bar.
The charity is also encouraging people to organise their own fundraising events for The National Brain Appeal Pyjama Party. Ideas for events as well as fundraising packs and nightcaps are available at www.pyjamaparty.org.uk or by texting ‘PJs’ along with name and address to 70500.
