Lancashire’s Ramsbottom Festival has revealed a stellar line-up of both established and emerging performers for 2014, with headliners British Sea Power topping the bill. Other acts include Brighton folk-rockers Levellers and Irish folk songstress Cara Dillon.
Now in its fourth year, Rammy promises a chilled, laid back atmosphere and has become just as famous for its real ales and family entertainment as it has for its eclectic mix of indie, rock and folk music.
Line up includes:
British Sea Power, Levellers, Cara Dillon, Admiral Fallow, Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, Keston Cobblers' Club, Randolph Swain, Mad Dog Mcrea, The Shee, Marcus Malone, Lisbee Stainton, Jo Harman, Harp and a Monkey, Gorgeous George, The Gramotones, Racing Galciers
With the experience of 25 years in the music industry behind them, Levellers will be kicking off the festival on Friday night, followed by British Sea Power who will take to the stage on Saturday with their signature theatrics and visual flair. Still to be announced are details of Sunday’s headline act.
Described by Q Magazine as ‘quite possibly the world’s most beautiful female voice’, Cara Dillon will be performing tracks from her new album A Thousands Hearts alongside her partner Sam Lakeman. Acoustic folk four-piece Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, who last year won the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, are certain to be another highlight.
Also in the line-up are Keston Cobblers’ Club who, led by siblings Matthew and Julia Lowe, are making waves in the industry with their beautiful harmonies and instrumental prowess, and have been championed by the likes of 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq. Rising star Lisbee Stainton will be showcasing her unique acoustic folk sounds, while Glasgow six-piece Admiral Fallow perform beautifully eccentric songs with an indie-rock line-up of clarinet, flute, double bass, strings and jaw dropping vocals.
Organised by Bury’s The Met in partnership with The Bridgewater Hall, Rammy won Small Tourism Event of the Year at the Manchester Tourism Awards 2013. This year the festival has also linked with outdoor arts company Wild Rumpus to launch a new family arts programme funded by Arts Council England including theatre performances, art shows, circus acts and storytellers.
Stalls from local restaurants and street food vendors will be offering a variety of Great British grub and international cuisine, plus a special edition Ramsbottom Festival Ale. The quality of the festival’s beer is a definite point of pride and those who have love for craft beer and real ale may find it difficult to tear themselves away from the beer tents.
For families
Family entertainment is a real highlight at the festival and special outdoor workshops and experiences run by Bury Collective will be ramping up the fun for children aged 3 upwards. Touring art shows coming to Rammy in partnership with Wild Rumpus include:
· Shadowplay from Walk The Plank (Friday and Saturday) – performers create human sculptures and silhouetted characters inspired by European folklore.
· Something To Hold by Pif-Paf (Saturday and Sunday) – physical theatre company tells stories inspired by the moon and the stars.
· Les Enfants Terribles’ Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie (Saturday and Sunday) – climb aboard the caravan of curiosities and marvel at the crew of misfits in outlandish make-up and costumes. Expect circus performers, puppets, dancers, music and magic.
Rammy Festival takes place Friday 19th – Sunday 21st September 2014
at Ramsbottom Cricket Club, Bury, just 12 miles from Manchester city centre.
