Parcels 4 Delivery set to plant 500th tree thanks to customers' carbon neutral contributions

News provided by P4D | Parcels 4 Delivery on Wednesday 30th Apr 2014

Courier services booking agent Parcels 4 Delivery are set to plant their 500th tree, using funding that has been contributed by their customers as part of the firm's carbon neutral initiative.

Recognising that the parcel delivery industry uses a great deal of fuel, this carbon neutral initiative was devised as P4D's effort to counterbalance part of the carbon footprint that the couriers with whom they work are creating.

Known as the P4D Green Scheme, the initiative gives customers the option of adding a small extra - a matter of pence - to the cost of their delivery, in order to offset the carbon footprint that the delivery will create. The carbon neutral contribution is determined on an order to order basis, and is calculated based on the amount of time that the parcel will spend on the road, in the air or at sea.

All money raised through the P4D Green Scheme is donated to OxTreeGen, who work with both companies and individuals to offset their carbon emissions through the planting of new trees. The trees planted by OxTreeGen help the planet to breathe, with their planting projects reducing soil erosion, enhancing biodiversity or assisting with reforestation.

Parcels 4 Delivery acts as a courier booking agent, holding contracts with every major courier firm. For both businesses and individuals, the P4D service is simple to use: details of the parcel are entered into the P4D website, with instant quotes given for UK, European and international parcel delivery. With a high volume of parcels passing through P4D every day, the firm is even able to offer lower rates than going direct - which are passed directly on to the customer. The range of services offered by P4D include parcel delivery, pallet delivery and document services, all of which are offered via road, air and sea.

P4D also offer over 7,000 drop off points around the country, in addition to the option of courier collection, and have a dedicated customer service team, who are also available out of hours and at weekends for any customer queries.

Chris Black, Managing Director, says "When we launched our carbon neutral scheme in May 2011, we had no idea just what a difference we would be able to make. With just a tiny contribution from our customers, we are able to make a real difference in terms of reducing the carbon footprint that the sending of their parcels creates."
