Pantheon UK Ask ‘Are You an Employee or an Entrepreneur?’
News provided by Pantheon on Tuesday 6th May 2014
There is a gulf of difference between people who suit being an employee and people who prefer the life of an entrepreneur. The Managing Director of Pantheon UK, Boyd Parker, is a natural entrepreneur who never considered a life as an employee to be one that he wanted to pursue. However, being an employee suits a large majority of people because it is low-risk and a reliable source of income. Mr Parker thinks it is very important to figure out whether you are more naturally suited to life as an employee before you embark on a career as an entrepreneur.
He says, ‘To be an entrepreneur takes a special sort of person and unless you display natural tendencies for this way of life then you are better off getting a job. There are many differences between employees and entrepreneurs, the first of which is that entrepreneurs have a completely different mindset. They are focused, target-driven and highly motivated and they are far more likely to take measured and calculated risks than those who are naturally more inclined to be employees. Entrepreneurs have a need to manage their own time and cannot work to somebody else’s schedule all of the time. Employees tend to prefer routine and they find that they are far more able to work set hours, for example 9-5. I do not think that I have ever worked 9-5 in my life, however you will often find me burning the midnight oil! I work when I need to and want to, rather than when other people dictate that I should. I enjoy this way of working as it frees me up and makes me feel more focused. One of the downsides to being an entrepreneur is that there is little space for a personal life as every minute gets taken up by business. Natural entrepreneurs won’t mind this though as they see their social life as an extension of their business life.’
The life of an entrepreneur is not for everyone, however it suits people like Boyd Parker down to the ground. Happy to be his own boss, he enjoys being able to make his own decisions and growing Pantheon UK in the best possible ways. Having nobody to answer to but his clients, he finds that his natural ability for entrepreneurship has stood him in good stead. He is now reaping the rewards of his hard work as he drives his company forward.
