New self-protection system for kids challenges bullies and abductors
Whatever direction the grab comes from, and whatever the size of the opponent, any child or young person can release themselves.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance, hosted by the National Children's Bureau (NCB), is delighted to announce a new partnership which addresses kids' abduction and bullying. MANTIS is a new company which has developed a host of simple, proven initiatives which will help to significantly empower children and young people, making them safer and building their confidence.
The first of these initiatives focuses on a physical attack or abduction attempt, and teaches us how to release from a physical grab. The moves are demonstrated by Silvio Simac - World Champion Martial Artist and Hollywood actor. As he illustrates, whatever direction the grab comes from, and whatever the size of the opponent, any child or young person can release themselves.
The steps to achieve this are presented in a series of interactive DVD's called 'The Children's Protector'. 8 steps are taught over the course of 8 weeks, with instructions and encouragement to practice for just a few minutes each day – together with an interactive game that helps to instill the techniques. It's simple, accessible to all, and highly effective.
The name MANTIS has been developed from the company's over-riding purpose: Manage Any Nasty Trouble In Society. We have drawn on our own extensive teaching experience and world-leading self-defence expertise to create our learning programmes, and our aim is to build a launch pad from which children and young people can feel safer and more confident. We have seen for ourselves that the results of this can have profound benefits in all aspects of individuals' lives.
Lauren Seager-Smith, National Coordinator, Anti-Bullying Alliance, says: 'We want all of our children to live happy, fulfilled lives without fear of bullying. The 'Children's Protector' is a powerful tool to empower children in the face of a physical attack. All of us – whether children or adults – can benefit from learning these simple techniques.'
