A national careers event aimed at helping members of the Armed Forces Community (AFC) find new roles post-service is launching in Yeovilton this month.
Military2Defence aims to connect employers in the defence industry with Service-Leavers looking to start a new career in the sector. The first Insight Day, which takes place on Thursday, January 26th at the Swordfish Conference Centre at RNAS Yeovilton, will give attendees from all areas of the Armed Forces Community the opportunity to meet representatives from a range of the UK’s top defence employers, and discover more about pursuing a career in the defence industry.
Military2Defence is the second sector-specific arm of British Forces Resettlement Service (BFRS), following the successful launch of Military2Construction in November 2022.
BFRS is a leading social enterprise dedicated to helping members of the Armed Forces Community resettle into life outside of military service by helping them find employment or training opportunities with Forces-friendly employers - many of which are signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant. BFRS works with a wide portfolio of companies in a variety of industries to offer a range of opportunities for the Armed Forces Community post-service.
Not only do BFRS provide support and advice to Service-Leavers themselves, but they also work with veterans, reservists and military families, helping the whole community and guide them through a smooth resettlement transition.
BFRS are proud to announce this event is sponsored by the Morson Group who have a highly commendable track record of supporting ex-forces personnel.
From the Royal Logistics Corp to the heart of British supply chains!
Wincanton prides itself on providing safe, sustainable and compliant British supply chain solutions through collaboration with its defence customers, driving value and innovation throughout the contract lifecycle.
Rob Wagstaff:
After serving in the military for over 30 years he decided to hang up his uniform so he could settle down into civillian life, and thanks to Wincanton his journey to doing that was made simpler.
Below we have a short interview with Rob where he explains the reason’s he decided now was the time for him to make the leap and start his resettlement.
“I left the military in March 2022. I was very nervous about leaving the security the military offers after 30 years but was lucky enough to have already secured a role at Wincanton who have great at easing me into civilian employment”
“Back yourself! The Armed Forces gives you a fantastic work ethos and set of skills that are widely transferable into Civilian life. Also, don’t be afraid of using your military contacts, there are service personnel in most businesses that are more than happy to reach out and aid the transition to civilian life”
BFRS love to hear as many success stories as possible and partnering with companies like Wincanton who show consistent support to members of the Armed Forces Community, is always a pleasure.
Harry Dean, founder and CEO of BFRS, says:
“We run many events throughout the year. They are so important because some forces personnel have served longer than others and some experience much more difficulty than others in their transition from military life to civilian life”
“These events provide an excellent platform to see what’s out there; what skills and qualities are transferable and what type of career is available once they leave the forces”
“Once you start to look around and see what is out there, and look at what skills you have, then you can start to build your confidence and see how you can be an asset to a company”

ABOUT BFRS:
As a social enterprise, BFRS provides services to tackle social problems and improve the life chances of the Armed Forces Community. The key to this is knowing that military resettlement is more than just the brief time when leaving the services, and that it isn't just personnel from the regular forces who are affected. Therefore, all the services BFRS deliver are open to Service Leavers, Reserve Forces, Veterans, civilian MOD employees, as well as partners and families, and it doesn't matter for how long or when people served.
Please note:
BFRS is a social enterprise organisation, not a registered charity.
