New 'Bourne' Blockbuster Filmed in Tenerife!

News provided by Pressat Wire on Thursday 29th Oct 2015

Tenerife's position as a top filming location for box-office blockbusters has been re-'Bourne', with Hollywood movie star Matt Damon recently shooting the fifth instalment of the action-packed Bourne series on the streets of the island's capital city, Santa Cruz.

The Golden Globe winner spent five weeks shooting action scenes on the island as he revived his role as super spy Jason Bourne. In September 2015, director Paul Greengrass and his production team travelled to Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, to film the fifth chapter of the hugely-successful franchise of Robert Ludlum's novel series in and around Santa Cruz, with the help of local production company Sur-Film Production & Services. Filming locations included the neighbourhoods of Valleseco, Cabo Llanos, Salamanca, La Salud and Taco, as well as Tenerife North Airport and the southern town of Arona.

Fans of the action series and lucky visitors spotted Damon filming a number of gritty action sequences, including a sequence that saw him mount a police motorbike attached to a mobile camera.

The Tenerife Film Commission, the brand of the Tenerife Tourism Corporation responsible for promoting the island as a filming location, provided help and support to the production team. There was believed to be 350 hired for the production, together with 600 extras used for filming. In addition, around 600 local companies were hired or took part in the film.

Tenerife is a popular international filming location thanks to its huge diversity of striking landscapes. Famous films and high-profile productions shot on the island include Fast & Furious 6, the historical fantasy Clash of the Titans and its sequel Wrath of the Titans, and BBC's Doctor Who which was filmed earlier this year.
