MyCare - an interactive mobile app for young people in care

Pearson Publishing has launched MyCare, an app sponsored by Luton Borough Council Virtual School that provides an interactive guide to the care system for children who are looked after.

Available via the nimbl mobile learning platform, MyCare aims to help inform young people about the different professionals they are likely to encounter, as well as care plans, placements, education, health and preparing for the future.

The app's interactive interface and video interviews with recent care leavers contribute to an accessible and engaging way of presenting information about the journey through care.

Commenting on the app launch, Rosalind Paul, Virtual School Head, Luton Borough Council, said:

"We are delighted with the new app MyCare. We wanted an app to help children and young people in care navigate their way through the care system so they can know who is who and what they are entitled to. The app is well organised and the information is easy to access. We are thrilled that five of our young people took part in the video clips."

The app is also available to purchase by other local authorities, and Pearson Publishing hope that more nimbl apps for looked after children will be produced in the future.
