Londoners Least Likely to 'Switch Off' This Easter

New research unveiled by Tesco Bank today has found that despite one third of the nation taking a holiday over Easter, Londoners are the least likely to switch off from work over the break. 26% of all Londoners will be checking work emails while on holiday, compared to a national average of 18%. Conversely, the Welsh are most likely to have good work/life balance, with only 6% planning to check in with work on their day's off1.

Of those going away on holiday, 44% do not plan to take out travel insurance for their trip. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the item that most holiday makers say they couldn't travel without is their mobile phone, with 85% of people aged 44 and under taking one away on holiday. Those over the age of 60 are most likely to be taking a digital camera (63%) or e-reader (33%). Only 7% of people would prioritise taking their cash, cards or wallets with them over other items such as their mobile device, and a very British 2% will be taking their own tea bags with them on their trip.

For 1 in 7 travellers this will be their main holiday of the year, and 30% of those travelling will be venturing further afield and travelling abroad, with the most popular international destinations being Spain, France and the USA.

Many people will be splashing out this Easter, with 31% spending more than £500 on their holiday, and a lucky 1 in 7 will be taking more than £500 spending money away with them.

Karl Bedlow, Managing Director, Insurance at Tesco Bank said; "It's interesting that so many people plan to travel this Easter, but surprising that so many are choosing to do so without travel insurance. Whilst people travelling within the UK and Europe might not be overly concerned about the cost of medical expenses, it is still worthwhile being covered for additional accommodation and transport home if you are injured and for things like cancellations, flight delays and thefts.

"Our average claim cost for those travelling to Spain last year was £873, whilst those travelling to America claimed on average £3197 – which could make your holiday very expensive indeed without adequate insurance."
