Local man walks 40 miles to raise £673 for the YMCA Scarborough in the Lyke Wake Walk Challenge…

At Midnight on 6^th September Mark Dresser began the 40 mile Lyke Wake Walk Challenge to raise funds for the YMCA Scarborough.

The Lyke Wake Walk is a 40 mile crossing of the North York Moors starting near Osmotherley and finishing near Ravenscar overlooking Robin Hoods Bay.

Mark was able to raise a total of £673 through sponsorship for the challenge that went towards the purchase of much needed tools for the YMCA Theatre.

Mark achieved well over his original goal and used the extra funds raised for a new carpet in the YMCA Theatre’s control room.

Mark said: “The Lyke Wake walk has always been a personal goal of mine, so to do it and help the YMCA by raising money for them really appealed to me. It was a hard walk though through the uneven terrain and steep hills, but with the support of everyone who had sponsored me, the 16 hours went very quickly. Then to raise enough money for the work tools and to carpet the control room was a great surprise. Thanks to everyone who helped me achieve this.”

The tools will allow young people to gain and develop set construction skills as part of the work they do already towards the YMCA Productions shows.

The control room was in desperate need of some TLC, the young people have themselves done a lot of work to improve the space they work in; the new carpet is a final step in making a professional space the young people can be proud to work in.

It is thanks to fundraising efforts like these that the YMCA can deliver high quality and essential support to the young people of Scarborough and the charity could not achieve its goals without these donations.
