Katy Holmes Trust launches North West Pride Awards 2015!

The Katy Holmes Trust are proud to announce that on November 21st 2015 they are hosting the North West Pride Awards celebrating the achievements of children and adults from across the region! Inspirational children as young as 4 years old together with adults and professionals will be presented with bespoke awards in honour of their courage, bravery or outstanding contribution to services. Celebrities will be invited to come along helping to create magical memories for those lucky award winners.
The award ceremony will take place at the 4 star Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa which is set in its own ground providing the perfect ambience for such an influential and prestigious event such as this. The Katy Holmes Trust is a Preston charity set up in January 2012 by David and Paula Holmes following the loss of their 10 year old daughter Katy after a heartbreaking 3 month battle with an aggressive brain tumour. In their quest for answers Katy's parents discovered that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of of children in the UK and adults under 40. They also learned that less than 1% of the national cancer research spending goes towards brain tumour research. The cause of brain tumours is unknown and there is no known cure either so the Katy Holmes Trust raises money to fund paediatric brain tumour research and raises awareness of this cruel disease.
Paula Holmes had this to say: "When we lost Katy our hearts were broken beyond repair and we had no idea how we were going to cope. The people of the North West heard our story and came on board to help us as we launched our charity. They took us and our 2 other children into their hearts and thanks to their support the charity has grown bigger each year. The charity funds research which isn't something anybody can physically see until lives are saved in years to come. We wanted to do something to give back to the community that supported us and celebrate others who have overcome adversities of some kind, this way everyone can see how else their contributions are helping"
David Holmes said: "This event promises to be very special indeed but in order for that to happen the Katy Holmes Trust is reaching out to businesses from across the North West to get involved! If you are interested in sponsoring either the event or one of the awards then please get in touch! The more of you that come on board the more spectacular the event can be and the more smiles can be created."
Katy was a beautiful child with the biggest, kindest and warmest heart. Even when she was prodded with needles in hospital she always thanked her nurses and doctors for their help. Katy would love to know that this is being done in her memory, rewarding people who have done wonderful things from young children to adults.
