News provided by Pressat Wire on Monday 28th Apr 2014
Monday 28th April: The Radio Academy has today announced that multi-award winning band the Kaiser Chiefs and platinum selling tenor and recording artist Alfie Boe will perform at this year's Radio Academy Awards.
The prestigious annual event celebrating the very best of the UK radio industry takes place on Monday 12th May at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane, hosted by Chris Evans.
The live performances will add extra sparkle to the ceremony, which will see 34 awards presented over the course of the evening, including the Gold Award for lifetime achievement that this year, goes to veteran broadcaster Tony Blackburn.
Ten years ago Kaiser Chiefs exploded out of the radio with "Oh My God" and "I Predict A Riot". In 2007 "Ruby" became the biggest UK & European radio hit of the year. Recently returned to the top of the UK Album charts with their 5th studio album, Education, Education, Education & War, led by the single "Coming Home", the album spent two weeks at number 1. It's a busy summer for Kaiser Chiefs with the band set to play at V Festival, T in the Park and Glastonbury, alongside a number of European dates and a North American Tour before starting 2015 with two Arena shows at London's O2 and the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
Famed for his performances in Les Misérables and La Bohème, Alfie Boe's unforgettable voice and undeniable star quality have seen him grace the stages of some of the biggest venues in the world, as well as performing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. He has sold well over 1.5 million records in the UK, had 4 Top Ten albums, 2 massive sell-out tours, a run of US Dates and recently completed a sold-out UK Arena Tour. A brand new "Italian" album will be released later this year and an Arena Tour is announced for November/ December 2014.
John Myers, Chairman of The Radio Academy Awards said: "To have both the Kaiser Chiefs and Alfie Boe performing live underlines how much the Awards have grown over recent years. They are at the top of their game and it's a fitting finale to the biggest radio night of the year."
Tickets for the awards ceremony are available from The Radio Academy.

Note to Editors:
2014 marks the 32nd year of these awards, the most prestigious accolades within the UK radio industry and the only event that brings the entire sector together to celebrate outstanding content and creativity.
The 2014 Awards are partnered by blinkbox music, PRS for Music, PPL, RCS and SGPB Hambros. These leading companies all have close associations to the radio industry and The Radio Academy, and for this year, replace a headline sponsor.
