Hotter Than A Ticket To The Oscars... And It Will Only Cost 20 Guineas!
A milestone has been reached as Screen Bites food and film festival celebrates its 10th birthday this year. In celebration, Screen Bites 10th Anniversary will be marked on 2nd October, in jubilant fashion with an appropriately food-focussed Gala Night to be held in the suitably celebratory setting of St Giles House at Wimborne St Giles by kind permission of Lord Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury.
In addition, the party atmosphere will be made complete with exquisite food created especially for the Gala by Lisa Osman of Provisio at All Hallows and award-winning wines from Langham Wines.
In true Screen Bites style, the food served by Lisa Osman will celebrate the very best the county of Dorset has to offer and, as Lisa explains, the menu has been inspired by the 17th century setting and food in the French film Vatel, which will also be screened at the Gala evening; “Every party deserves fabulous food and drink and when I sat down to create the menu I kept in mind the film and reflected on our magnificent produce in Dorset. Those two things were the inspiration for the menu to be served at this wonderful celebration,” explained Lisa Osman, who founded hospitality company Provisio in 2004 and has recently established her new All Hallows School for cooks and makers at All Hallows, also in the parish of Wimborne St Giles.
“I am thrilled to be creating the food for this wonderful celebration. Screen Bites is part of the food culture of Dorset along with Knob Throwing, Sturminster Cheese Festival and Dorset Farmers’ Markets. I consider myself very lucky to live in the county, to work with food producers each day, and to be establishing my new School at All Hallows. My food journey continues and I know that Screen Bites will travel on to other villages, bringing food films, local produce and the friendly gatherings that have made Screen Bites such an outstanding success, to many more audiences,” said Lisa.
To give a little ‘amuse bouche’ of what’s to come, the menu will include olives from the Festival’s principal sponsor for the whole of the 10 years, Olives Et Al, and a long list of producers many of whom have supported Screen Bites from the very first year, including; Capreolus, Chalke Valley Cheese, Chococo, Clipper, Dorset Blue Vinny, Dorset Game Larder, Dorset Watercress, Gold Hill Organic Farm Shop, Hall & Woodhouse, Home Farm Shop, Honeybuns, Long Crichel Organic Bakery, Thomas J Fudge’s, Woolsery and many more. The canapés will be a reflection of the landscape and coast of Dorset – a real celebration of Dorset’s finest produce.
Of course no celebration would be complete without one and the 10th Birthday Cake will be made by the Baking Birds for the Screen Bites team. The Baking Birds are also contributing to the Gala.
The Gala Night will celebrate an amazing success story; Screen Bites was created to support and promote the outstanding food and drink available in Dorset and using a healthy dose of inspiration, creativity, and huge support over 10 years from main sponsors Olives Et Al of Sturminster Newton, each Screen Bites event combines superb films, each with a food element, with tastings and more from local food producers.
Guests at the Gala will be welcome to dress in Restoration (17th Century) costume, or to dress for a party! It is anticipated that tickets will be in demand and these are being suitably priced at 20 Guineas (£21) and will be available at the end of June from screenbites@thanksgiving.demon.co.uk or telephone 01963 32525, also see www.screen-bites.co.uk
